I interviewed the four candidates for the Nov. 2024 FUHSD trustee area elections, which was significant as it followed major system changes within the election system. The article features their individual motivations in campaigning, their backgrounds within the community and their goals as potential trustees on the board. This piece helped me demonstrate my dedication for accurate and concise reporting and my skills with journalistic writing.
The news section worked together to create a cohesive elections-themed package alongside the local, congressional and national elections that occurred during the cycle. In accordance with El Estoque's mission of diverse sourcing, we interviewed four students of different upbringings and wrote four features on their perspectives of nationally-debated issues that deeply impact their shared local community. My co-writer and I maintained an unbiased approach for each student and produced an article that intertwined their unique experiences with each subject, which we coupled with informative statistics and a photo gallery, helping readers better understand each source and their backgrounds. Writing this story gave me the necessary insight into crafting unbiased yet engaging journalistic features.
